India: Renewed Ethnic Violence in Manipur

Indian authorities should urgently address renewed violence between ethnic communities in the northeastern state of Manipur, Human Rights Watch said today. At least seven people were killed in late August 2026 in violence between the Naga and Kuki-Zo tribal communities in the state’s hill districts, leaving 34 dead since the current violence between the communities began in February.

EU Partnership Talks with Bahrain Should Seek Activists’ Release

For over 15 years, Danish human rights defender Abdulhadi al-Khawaja and Swedish activist Mohamed Habib al-Muqdad have been languishing in Bahrain’s prisons, as their governments and the European Union (EU) have failed to secure their release from unjust detention. As the EU launched negotiations for a “Strategic Partnership Agreement” with Bahrain in July, it should use them to ensure that al-Khawaja, al-Muqdad and others unjustly jailed can finally be free and reunite with their families.
